Assign Exchange IMF / SCL Thresholds and Actions differently between users

Exchange Server's Spam Confidence Levels (SCL) thresholds can be defined on a group by group basis, providing greater flexibility for handling spam within your unique organization.   This example, based on an educational environment, shows how to define different thresholds and resulting actions depending on whether the mail is addressed to a student or staff member.

White List mail items bypassing the Exchange IMF

Exchange Server's Intelligent Message Filter (IMF) has very few options to allow you to whitelist a message bypassing the IMF and reducing False Positives. Whitelisting a message based on the sender's domain, subject, content, or header attributes is easy with this simple process.

Search Exchange Mailboxes for Message and Attachment Content

Exchange Server Mailboxes and Public Folders can be searched for particular policy concepts, content, or other general message attributes on a one time or reoccurring basis. Exchange Server can be configured to perform a reverse DNS lookup on incoming messages as they arrive, but can not do anything with that message.  This simple rule can delete or any other number of different actions on a failed Exchange Server reverse DNS lookup.

Prevent a Directory Harvest Attack or NDR BackScatter) on your Exchange Server

Email (or NDRs) that contain a high number of unresolved recipients usually means that your Exchange Server has been victim to a spammer's Directory Harvest Attack. Additionally SpamBots may generate what is termed as NDR BackScatter.  These types of attacks can generate a high number of NDRs, chokes bandwidth, and provides the spammers with key information on valid email addresses.  This simple rule can prevent this type of spam attack.

Running Nemx SecurExchange for Exchange behind a firewall or proxy gateway

When Nemx SecurExchange for Exchange is behind an active monitoring firewall or proxy gateway, then the IP address is that of the firewall or proxy and not that of the original SMTP server transmitting the message.  Nemx SecurExchange can operate behind a firewall or proxy with no loss of functionality.

Delete empty email messages

When a spammer interrogates your Exchange Server an empty message may result.  This simple rule will delete these empty messages.

Exclude Disclaimers, Signatures, and Banners on internal messages

A exclusions to prevent Signature Maker from adding banners to your internal messages, while keep external banners intact.

Delete possible harmful attachments

VBS, exe, pif, and other file types can create havoc within your environment. Here is a simple rule to block VBS files, but can be applied to any other file type.

Delete selective virus infected messages

Nemx's anti-virus product SecurExchange can clean or delete infected files attachments within a message, but you might want to delete all email message that contains a"Mass Mailer" type virus like Netsky, or Bagle.
