RBL filtering
Spam relay hosts are SMTP servers that either originate or relay spam email. A Real-Time Blackhole List (or RBL) is a database of the IP addresses of SMTP servers considered to be spam relay hosts, maintained by a third-party. SURBLs on the other hand is a database of URLs (links and images) that are known to be related to spam.
Spam Manager uses RBL filtering to check the IP address of the SMTP server sending inbound email, and identify known or suspected spam senders. Offering improved speed and performance, reduced bandwidth and lower administration costs, Spam Manager RBL filtering includes:
RBL and SURBL Weighting - increases the accuracy of filtering by requiring a consensus of multiple RBLs
Asynchronous Queries - reduces the filtering time for each email that is required for synchronous queries
Dropping the SMTP session - saves bandwidth by not requiring the message header and body to be downloaded (unlike address or message content filtering)
Local RBL server support - removes dependence on third party RBL servers and Internet bandwidth by making queries to a local DNS server
Whitelists - allows email from trusted servers to bypass the RBL filter, reducing the number of false positives
