HTML parsing
HTML is a flexible formatting environment designed to display rich text and colorful graphics in different computing environments. But this same flexibility is exploited to camouflage spam and pornography concepts, and gather information about intended recipients.
Concept Manager parses HTML text to find spam and pornography concepts through four key techniques:
Link substitution - translating different Web page link formats to increase the accuracy of detecting a spam or pornographic concept
Ascii characters - translating ascii values and scanning only the intended content
Invisible text - removing invisible text such as HTML comments, invalid HTML tags and white color text on a white background to scan only the intended content
Spam beacons - filtering for spam beacons, or HTML content that returns information to an external internet location
